Apple TV Instructions

Apple TV enables users to display presentations from an iPad or Apple computer using a wireless network. In order to display from an Apple TV device in a general classroom, you will need to supply your own Apple TV unit and connect it directly to the projection system via the HDMI input located at the instructors desk..  It must be a AppleTV 3rd Generation which has the peer to peer support.  The Apple TV should not be connected to the network.

There are a few steps that must be done prior to using the Apple TV in the classroom.

Getting started:

  1. AppleTV must be a 3rd generation model or later (Model MD199LL/A), running Apple TV Software 7.0 or higher (late September 2014 update)  This can be purchased via your department budget.
  2. The iOS device must be on iOS 8 or later.  iOS 8 is supported on iPhone 4s and iPad 2 and newer devices.

Recommended AppleTV Configuration:

  1. Under Settings, Select “AirPlay” and set the following settings:
    • Conference Room Display to “On”
    • Security to “Onscreen Code”
This will display a code on your screen that becomes your “password” to connect to the Apple TV, this will prevent other iPhone or iPad users within range of your AppleTV from displaying content on your screen.
    • Name the device something that you will remember and be easily identifiable to you when looking to use it
  2. Under Settings —> General set “Sleep After” to “Never”
